The largest town on Peleliu Island is Kloulklubed in the north known to offer very remote but superb diving. It was one of the islands most heavily battled with many unexpected caves and dense jungle that caused for many problems. It took the Americans over two months up to November 1944 to capture Peleliu in which is officially known as Operation Stalemate II. Today it is a memorial for all the Japanese and United Stated soldiers that died here.
Divers will know it for its stunning steep drop-offs at the southern part of the island. Yellow Wall, Peleliu Corner, around Ngesebus Island and Pelelieu Express are some of the steepest and most thrilling dive sites in Palau. Its strong currents provide for nutrient rich waters which attract all sorts of pelagic. Sharks, barracuda, tuna and even manta rays are regularly spotted.
